John received an award of Merit from IEEE in 1988. John was a member of APEGGA, Canadian Society of Forensic Science, International Association of Arson Investigators, Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and St. John and Wilma lived in Calgary until their move to an acreage in the Red Deer Lake area in 1978. In June of 1971, John and Wilma formed MacMaster Engineering Ltd. John and Wilma moved to Calgary in 1966 where he worked for Bates and Associates as Vice-President from 1966 – 1971. Ltd., and from 1961 – 1966 for Trans Canada Pipe. From 1952 – 1954 he was employed by Canadian Brazilian Services, from 1954 – 1961 for Power-Tronic Eng. from 1951 – 1952 in New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.
